Rise Up’s Champions for Change (a social advocacy group) with funding from the Ford Foundation, has partnered with Emem Isong’s Royal Arts Academy to produce Zahra, a grippingly emotional movie written by Uduak Oguamanam and Vivian Chiji.
The film follows the life of a young 15-year-old girl in Northern Nigeria who goes through the harrowing experience of having her village attacked and her family killed by marauding terrorists. She ends up in a camp for Internally Displaced People (IDP) where she hopes to find refuge to grieve her loss, but alas, the IDP is another type of hell.
Directed by Chris Eneaji Eneng (Murder at Prime Suites), Zahra explores – in intimate and heart crushing details (see trailer) – the squalor, theft, violence, and sexual harassment that go on within the camp. The movie will be screened on March 10th 2017, with a non-public screening at Civic centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on the 26th of February.
Produced by award winning Emem Isong (Ayamma, Apaye), the movie stars Segun Arinze, Patience Ozokwor, Victor Olaotan, Shawn Faqua, Nicole Ndigwe and much more. Catch the trailer below and share your thoughts in the comments.
