Hello, Rain, an Nnedi Okorafor adaptation and a story set around science and witchcraft, would be having its world premiere on the 6th of May at the 64th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. Founded in 1954, the festival is one of the oldest in the world and a major platform for short forms.
CJ Obasi, the Hello Rain director, is known for Otokoto and O-Town. His debut feature, Ojuju, premiered at the Africa International Film Festival in November 2014 and won the award for Best Nigerian Film. Speaking on the recent selection, the filmmaker said, “This is super exciting and a big deal for us… To world-premiere my first sci-fi fantasy effort (first among many) at this most prestigious event, as well as in the international competition category shows that dreams do come true.”
He went on to appreciate Nnedi Okorafor (for the original story), the cast and crew, collaborators and sponsors for the dream come true. According to him, “I thank you for believing in the vision, and trusting the journey, and the process. This is the beginning of greater things, and together we’ll ride this train to glory.” Hello, Rain stars Keira Hewatch, Tunde Aladese, and Ogee Nelson.
