Get ready for Hakkunde, a brand new movie written by Asurf Oluseyi, Tomi Adesina and Gift Imafidon. Shot in Kaduna, the movie follows the struggle of a Nigerian graduate for identity and livelihood. It’s the story of how Akande (Frank Donga) battles everything from love, family, discrimination, drug abuse, and tradition to insecurity. It’s a journey of self-discovery and actualization.
The movie was directed by Asurf Oluseyi Amuwa and stars Rahama Sadau, Toyin Abraham, Ali Nuhu, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, Maryam Booth, Ibrahim Daddy, Alhaji Isa Bello, Adebukola Oladipupo, Tomiwa Kukoyi, Shade Ladipo, Hadiza Soja and a host of others. Asurf Oluseyi is a self-taught filmmaker known for Hell or High Water, a short film exploring gay sexuality amidst spirituality. His 15 minute short, A Day with Death, was written by Breanne Mattson and won the Best Online Video at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
Hakkunde is Asurf’s first full-length movie and was sponsored by the Lagos State Government, GIG Motors, Peak, Judith Audu Productions, Phoenix Global Media, Eastside Productions and Imprint Media.
Speaking on the movie, Asurf Oluseyi said, “The world is changing and there are different ways to exploring opportunities around us. I have never been to a university. I attended a polytechnic but dropped out; but this hasn’t stopped me from achieving my dreams. I want Hakkunde to open minds and connect to every youth out there.”
The movie highlights the merits of steadfastness, humility and self denial. It also espouses the gains of harnessing opportunities and lays bare the demerits of pride, greed and inconsistency. Hakkunde will be in cinemas by the 4th of August, 2017.
