At first, I thought my ears were playing tricks on me because, I kid you not, the intro, ‘Oriki,’ was fantastic. I enjoyed it. Kudos to Tolu Obanro; he created magic!
The cinematography – jeez, it has style! The color blending and grading were so soothing to the eye. I was transported from my couch to the early Oyo era.
What if I told you that the first 7 minutes of the movie were an intro but didn’t even feel like it? Odunlade Adekola gave a spectacular performance. Gbotija, portrayed by Lateef Adedimeji, is an interesting character. I am not going to lie; he embodied and gave a spectacular performance.
I will just chip in that Woli Agba made an appearance and man, he delivered. It was nice seeing both old and some new faces from the Yoruba Nollywood in JagunJagun.
How can I not talk about the fight scenes? Let’s first discuss the first spectacular fight scene in the Ogundiji warrior school. That action film is of international standard, truly impressive.
The storyline was quite interesting. It reminded me of the story of Saul and David in the Bible with a sprinkle of intriguing additions here and there. But, we’re still not there yet with editing. I feel they can make it more realistic and natural. The blood splashes and props could be made better.
Ibrahim Yekini, Bukunmi Oluwashina, Fathia Balogun, Muyiwa Ademola, Bimbo Ademoye, and the rest of the cast delivered remarkably well.
