In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Nollywood actress Ini Edo revealed some interesting details about her life and career. She shared that she did not originally plan to be an entertainment celebrity in acting but rather aspired to be a lawyer or a newscaster. Ini Edo mentioned that her role model while growing up was the late broadcaster Tokunbo Ajayi, and she admired her news casting on-screen.
However, fate took a different turn for Ini Edo. While waiting to pursue her law degree, she enrolled in a Theater Art diploma and started doing stage acting. The opportunity to enter the world of film arose, and she embraced it, acknowledging that it was destiny that led her to become an actor.
Ini Edo also discussed her early struggles in pursuing acting as a profession, as her family initially did not support her decision. It was movie director Ikenna Igwe who visited her home and convinced her parents to allow her to pursue a career in film.
Regarding her personal life, Ini Edo expressed regret about her previous marriage. She had married American-based businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, but the marriage lasted only five years, eventually leading to a divorce in 2013. Ini Edo revealed that she initially felt pressured by family to get married, but later realized it was not the right decision for her.
She mentioned in the interview that she would consider getting married again if the right person comes along. However, she also opened up about her decision to welcome her first child via surrogacy. Ini Edo shared that she had experienced several miscarriages and had become tired of trying to conceive. Wanting a child for herself, she chose surrogacy as an option, using her own eggs to ensure a biological connection.
In 2021, Ini Edo announced the arrival of her first child, a girl, through the surrogacy process. Her journey reflects her determination to fulfill her desire to become a mother, independent of her marital status.
