About a decade ago, a standoff ensued between two proverbial elephants- the Nigerian government and the Boko Haram group. Nigerians in the North, who are the proverbial grass in this standoff all suffered a great deal of loss in the ordeal.
Those that did not lose their lives lost their homes, and had to be placed in Internally Displaced Camps by international bodies like UNDP in collaboration with the Borno State government.
Present day, these people are coming back home to pick up the pieces and rebuild. Ngannaram is their story.
Ngannaram is a documentary film and it is directed by Kachi Benson, a social impact documenter, who is popular for using Virtual Reality to help immerse his viewers in the reality of the victims of any societal crisis he is covering.
Among the feathers on his directorial cap are movies like In Bakassi, and Daughters of Chibok which went on to bag the Venice Lion award for the Best Immersive movie at the 76th Venice film Festival.
The casts for the movie are not fully revealed yet but it is certain that some of the real life victims will be starring in it.
The UNDP, through Mahmoud Yaya, stated their intent for pushing the film: to tell the story of people who are not normally seen in a dignified manner and showcase how resilient they are to even be willing to try again.
NGARANAM hits the big screen come October, 2023.
Till then, when we bring you all the details on where to stream and all the shindigs, keep following our platforms for the juice on the happenings in the film world .
