While watching “A Weekend to Forget,” one of the Nollywood movies released on streaming platforms, I knew I wouldn’t be forgetting the movie anytime soon, contrary to its name, because of several reasons. For one, it reminded me of two of my favourite Hollywood movies: “Knives Out” and “Gone Girl.”
Another reason was that the murder mystery genre in Nollywood hasn’t had many captivating plots. “A Weekend to Forget” brought something new to the Nollywood scene, and I was intrigued.
The plot revolves around Chief Ajasca’s daughter, Lisa, going on a weekend getaway with her boyfriend, Bem. However, events take a dark turn when Lisa is found dead, turning the planned memorable weekend into a haunting one.
The film’s well-detailed plot grabs attention, although for me, it had a slow start. I could already guess who was going to die from the beginning, but still, for a Nollywood murder genre, it’s not bad. Although they could do better because there were fluffs and some scenes felt disconnected.
Midway into the movie, I was struggling really bad to see the psychological aspects in the movie like it was at “Knives Out.” I probably set the bar too high with so many expectations.
I must commend Neo Akpofure, who took on the role of Bem; he gave an impressive performance. The cast, comprising both seasoned actors and ex-reality show participants, did justice to their roles. It’s quite interesting to see ex-reality show participants do something different like acting.
Although the movie didn’t dwell much on repercussions it still gave a hint of consequences. They handled the mystery, and they were able to at least keep me glued till the end (although I had already known who the killer was).
I’d give it a 5/10 rating. What would you give it? Head on to our Audience ratings page to tell us how you feel about it.
