Renowned Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen recently shared a distressing encounter her production team faced in Lagos through an Instagram video. She recounted how her crew was accosted and extorted by area boys, leading to a crew member being in danger of getting stabbed.
Biodun appealed to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the chairman of the Lagos State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, MC Oluomo, urging swift intervention. She expressed dismay over the escalating intimidation faced by filmmakers and citizens, emphasising the need for immediate action from the authorities.
Their vehicle malfunctioned on the road, prompting the distressing encounter with area boys who demanded money, creating a fearful atmosphere. Despite paying substantial sums, the situation intensified, with a crew member narrowly avoiding a potential stabbing.
Biodun pleaded with the government for urgent action against area boys’ extortion, citing the staggering 22,000 naira they had to pay due to the vehicle breakdown.
In an emotional plea in the video’s caption, Biodun implored the government to rescue them from the area boys’ clutches, emphasising the collective suffering and the need for immediate intervention.
Biodun’s impassioned outcry calls for authorities to ensure safety and protection for citizens and artists navigating Lagos’s streets.
