The aspire to maguire folks were not lying: Consistency is key.
It certainly has helped Ruth Kadiri unlock the door to the trend tables and pulled a 6 million viewership for Better Half, her recent offering on Youtube.
So what is it about and is it worth your time? Let’s see.
First, the film addresses a warring stereotype of older woman-young guy romance with(Uche Montana) playing Anastasia, a beautiful young female lecturer who has caught the interest of one of her students, Chidi Dike(Kanye).
She keeps dismissing him(Kanye) because of course, such is frowned at in our society and also because she is in a serious long distance relationship.
Unknown to her, the student she has been dismissing is the guy she’s in a long distance relationship with ( I’ll prefer not to be asked how such a hot babe like that missed this)
Anyways, a showdown follows but eventually, Anastasia comes “around” like Kanye believed all along.
And that part- where Kanye is outed and he tries to work his way back into Anastasia life – is my first problem with the movie.
There is already a stereotype that younger guys are not so mature and Kanye’s cringe lines prove just that.
Of course, the lines are not as much Chidi Dike’s fault as it is the writer’s whose naïveté is telling almost from the start of the movie from the misogynistic air(buying off a woman’s love). However, Chidi’s body language in acting also leaves much to be desired too so yes Kanye be blamed.
There were also scenes that should have made directors cut that didn’t. And they sort of affected the movies too.
Despite these sha, Better Half is still a feel good story; Kanye, our discount Trevor Jackson’s(Grownish) has got panty dropping eyes that are easily enough consolation for all of his gaffes in the movies.
You should watch Better Half if fantasy is your groove or you wish to manifest your soft life era vicariously.
However, if what you are looking for is some profound cinematic experience or you know you are finicky about details, you may have to sit this one out.
