Funke Akindele, a renowned filmmaker and actress, recently shared her journey to success in Nollywood, shedding light on the challenges she faced along the way.

The 46 years old Nollywood actress recounted how she encountered rejection and discrimination in the film industry based on her physical appearance. She revealed that she had been denied movie roles because of people’s negative judgments about her looks. These hurtful experiences took a significant toll on her emotional well-being.

She recalled the harsh words and judgments she faced, saying, “While climbing the ladder of success, I met a lot of SHEs, bullies, people that would look down on you.” It was a difficult path, and she had to confront individuals who doubted her capabilities.

Funke shared some of the hurtful comments she received: “I remember people telling me, ‘You are not fine. You do not have a bum. You do not have boobs. You will not be in this film’.” These remarks led to moments of vulnerability, where she would often cry and seek solace in private spaces like the bathroom.

Regardless of these circumstances, Funke Akindele didn’t let fhem define her. She empowered herself with the resilience and strong determination required to overcome adversity in the entertainment industry. She didn’t let discouragement and body shaming stop her from achieving her dream.

Funke Akindele is an inspiration to other upcoming acts in the Nollywood industry who might be going through similar challenges. Do not let other people’s opinions deter you from achieving your Nollywood dream.
