This was revealed in a video posted by Yul on his verified Instagram page on Thursday afternoon. In the video, the older Edochie talked about his religious beliefs as a Catholic and the values he grew up with and which he also raised his children with.
He said, “I raised them (my children) under very strict puritanical discipline as I was raised. I am not one to be involved in politics because it does not interest me… But, you see, not all your children are bound to follow you, (and) one of my sons who incidentally is an actor has decided that he wants to be a politician.
“Most of the youngsters have been bugging my phone asking me to endorse my son, that they want him as president and I get amused. But, you see, they keep insisting, ‘Daddy, we want Yul to be the product of this country… We like him. He’s disciplined, he’s sympathetic, he believes a lot in people…’
“They have bothered me so much that I have decided that today I am hereby presenting him to you. He has my blessing, he has my endorsement.”
On the 14th of July 2017, Yul Edochie declared his intention to run for the Governor of Anambra State. On the 22nd of August, 2017, this declaration was made official when he picked up the nomination form of the Democratic People’s Congress. He later won the primary elections and became the flag bearer of the party in the State’s gubernatorial election.
