Tunde Kelani, one of the most lauded movie producers, took to his social media platforms to announce that one of his best works, Saworo Ide, will be getting a second part, 20 years after it was first adapted from its book.
For the Yoruba people in Nigeria, When describing classics, SAWORO-ide is usually top five and not just first five. The reason is not far-fetched.
It is one of those movies with depth, snark (oh you will be wowed) and a massive bow to the culture and values of the Yoruba people of Nigeria.
However, like with many movies that have stood the test of time and got a remake/reboot/sequel, the news of a sequel sometimes gets fans jittery.
Some people get skeptical (rightfully ) that a sequel won’t measure up to the old thereby tainting the old one for them while others feel like an entirely different movie would be the bang.
In SAWORO Ide’s case, the reactions it has received is a mix of both, then the fact that there had been a release in 2002, called Agogo Eewo which many had assumed was Saworo IDE’s sequel.
Whatever the case maybe, we are confident that all will be made clear whether through news online or in SaworoIde 2.
So keep your ears peeled for the XploreNollywood’s subsequent updates on the matter.
