Nigeria’s top female music star, Tiwa Savage, will feature in Amazon Prime Video film titled Water and Garri. The movie, produced by Everything Savage and Unbound Studios and directed by Meji Alabi, adds to Prime Video Nigeria’s growing Nollywood content, alongside Gangs of Lagos, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija, and SHE Must Be Obeyed.
‘Water and Garri’ follows Aisha (Savage), an ambitious fashion designer, returning to her native country after a decade in the United States. As she copes with changes, violence, and past guilt, the film captures her journey of reconnecting with family, friends, and an old love.
Filmed in Ghana, the feature stars Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde. Ayanna Lonian, Director of Content Acquisition at Prime Video, praised the film for delivering a fresh perspective on contemporary African stories.
Tiwa Savage expressed her excitement, calling the global launch on Prime Video a dream come true, showcasing her vulnerable side. Jimi Adesanya, the producer and Unbound Studios executive, highlighted the cultural significance of the collaboration with Prime Video.
‘Water and Garri,’ a co-production of Everything Savage, Unbound Studios, and JM Films, premieres in early 2024. It was written by Comfort Emmanuel, directed and edited by Meji Alabi, with Tiwa Savage providing the music. The film boasts a star-studded executive producer lineup, including Tiwa Savage, Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Jimi Adesanya, and Meji Alabi.
This Nigerian content joins Prime Video’s global Amazon Originals and Exclusives, including series and movies like Gen V, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Wheel of Time, Riches, and Coming 2 America. Other Nollywood titles are also available on affordable Amazon Prime Video subscriptions, expanding the platform’s diverse offerings.
