I have always believed that all movies except The Bridgertons and Forever My Girl suffer from the Movie-adaptation curse but you see this Perfect Find? It was a discovery.
As you may be aware, the book it was based on was written by Tia Williams, a multiple award winning writer.
However, that’s not the only reason I’m convinced she’s good, I’ve read her books including The Perfect Find. And I can tell you with my full chest that this 91 minute buffet of travesty is all the producer’s fault not the writer’s.
Even the actors, especially Gabby Union, who I’d already written off as incapable of taking on the complex character of Jenna Jones, played their parts well.
All the unhingeness, half truths and fragments of the protagonist’s reality is what made The Perfect Find dead on arrival.
The silly cut and join of Jenna’s messy breakup , her high profile firing, her self-sabotage journey and navigating a love life with the son of her Antichrist boss into an unengaging plot was all them. They must have thought they were doing something profound with the “brevity” and the “silly reimagines”, when in fact they were only muddying a perfectly delicious age gap romance. Lol.
I would go on and on but that feels like crying over spilled milk. So I will advise you.
If you watched The Perfect Find and felt cheated, go read the book.
I do not guarantee that it will make you feel less cheated but I do know that it will help you make sense of the story.
The Perfect Find rates 2/10 at XploreNollywood and that’s for putting pictures to scenes like the “amoral seduction at the communion” and Nina Mae McKinney, Jenna’s idol.
