I envy Gen Z. When they are sending deserving employers strongly worded emails, they are watching movies like The Blood Covenant for entertainment purposes.
Trust me, anyone who was alive in the 90’s knows that Prime Video’s The Blood Covenant is definitely giving “Mount Zion movies”. And boy, did our parents’ use them to put the fear of God in us😩.
To back up a little. The Blood Covenant is an Inkblot and FilmOne 2023 film that preaches about the dire consequences of getting into covenants, especially one with blood- whether guileless or not.
Eddy, Osiano, Obi and Jite are four friends who for the purpose of forming a united front against the prejudice they experienced as scholarship students in their elite class high school, got into a blood sealed covenant.
Unfortunately and unknown to Eddy(Tobi Bakre), Osiano(Shawn Faqua), and Jite(Uzor Arukwe), Obi(Alex Ekubo) , the fourth person in their circle, had gone behind them to use that pact for diabolical purposes.
When they do know, at their high school reunion party, all hell breaks loose. Then it rained brimstones because not only did Obi betray their trust but he had also arranged for them to become his next sacrificial lambs.
Call it survival of the fittest ( or the fastest)?-Osiano was able to stab Obi before he succeeded at his plot.
But like you, I was wrong in thinking that marked the end of their problems.
It was actually that singular act that catalysed premium peril in Osiano’s, Jite’s and Eddy’s already chaotic lives.
The crew paint a pretty impressive picture of the gore that accompanies diabolical things like these, but that’s about it.
The acting was good for the most part but the ones that weren’t, almost ruined the movie. Tobi Bakre kept floundering his delivery. Probably more in-element with gangsta characters than regular dude cast?
Ufuoma McDermott, as well, in her role as a detective🙂. Her delivery was not all that. At all.
Then, that inspector bros (Ufuoma’s partner) at the interrogation room. Let’s just say I am more comfortable believing that he was deliberately cast that way and not that he actually interpreted his role that way. God abeg.
One part still remains unclear in my opinion, and it is the fact that you can’t tell if the jazz was real or if it was just another ceremonious brainwashing.
To be fair though, you will enjoy The Blood Covenant if:
- You find yourself missing Mike Baniloye’s titles e.g The Blood Covenant( yup, Mount Zion has an exact same title), Ayamatanga, Agbara Nla and Ultimate prize.
OR
- You just feel like dispensing home training to someone.
The Blood covenant rates 6/10 at XploreNollywood and is presently streaming on Prime Video.
If you have seen The Blood Covenant, how do you rate it?
