In a heartfelt speech, Sambasa Nzeribe recieved his award for the Best Actor In a Drama at the 5th Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Last year saw him going against top contenders like OC Ukeje (The Department) and Blossom Chukwujekwu (Stolen Water) to win the Best Supporting Actor (A Soldier’s Story).
His performance in Slow Country saw him beat the other nominees in this category including Olu Jacobs (Oloibiri), Richard Mofe-Damijo (Oloibiri), Ramsey Nouah (’76), Tongai Chirisa (Happiness Is A Four Letter Word), Femi Jacobs (Remember Me), and Gregory Ojefua (The Encounter).
Directed by Eric Aghimien (A Mile from Home), Slow Country follows the life of a homeless teenage mother, who gets herself trapped in prostitution and drug trafficking for seven years. In order to secure a good life for her son she decides to quit. But her boss, a ruthless human and drug trafficker, is not ready to let go of his most trusted cash cow.
The film also stars Majid Michel, Ivie Okujaye (Something Wicked), Richard Brutus, and Tope Tedela. Check out the blood-curdling trailer below.
