The 22^nd Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) took place in the wee hours of the morning in Los Angeles. For many news publishing circles, the SAG Awards ventured where the current 2016 Academy Awards failed to go in terms of diversity and equal representation.

With Idris Elba bagging 2 awards for roles in film and Television, outstanding performance by a cast going to ‘Spotlight’, Leonardo Dicaprio picking up the outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role for The Revenant, to add to his Golden Globe win and Alicia Vikander, winning outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role for The Danish Girl.

For TV, Viola Davis, picked the outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series while Uzo Aduba and Queen Latifah picked up the statues for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Comedy Series’ and ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Television Movie or Miniseries’ respectively.
