Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Femi Odugbemi have made the list for The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences invitees for 2018. The list which was released and includes new members, is a record of 928 names, topping last year’s 774, 2016’s 683, and 2015’s 322.
In its efforts to make its members more diverse, 49% of the invitees are female, with 38% of the new members being people of color.
According to Variety, “Actors make up about 20% of the Academy’s membership and are its largest branch. The new members come from 59 different countries…”
Femi Odugbemi makes the list under the documentary category. The filmmaker’s credits famously include: “Gidi Blues,” “Battleground,” “Tinsel,” “Maroko,” “Bariga Boy”among others.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde who has amassed more than twenty years of experience as an actor is listed under the category for actors. She joins Tiffany Haddish, Blake Lively, Amy Schumer and Emilia Clarke on the list. She is the only Nigerian actor listed.
