In an exciting announcement on Instagram, Film One, the official distributor, revealed that the epic Yoruba language film ‘Orisa,’ directed by the talented Odunlade Adekola, is set to stream on Prime Video starting February 2, 2024. The film, which initially captivated audiences across Nigerian cinemas on July 31, 2023, narrates a tale entrenched in an ancient Yoruba city.
At the film’s core is the formidable character of Orisa, portrayed by the skilled Ademola, a powerful warrior leading a group of highly skilled compatriots. Their actions, initially serving a dubious agenda, pose a challenge not only to the reigning king but also to rival criminal factions within the city. As the narrative unfolds, a mission gone awry unravels a dark secret, casting a looming shadow of doom upon Orisa and his band of warriors.
Despite facing stiff competition from Hollywood giants like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ upon its initial release, ‘Orisa’ defied the odds and secured its place in history with a record-breaking opening week, raking in an impressive ₦27.6 million.
The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Femi Adebayo, Shaffy Bello, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Muyiwa Ademola, and Eniola Ajao. The acclaimed movie, directed by Adekola himself, held its ground at the box office for 14 weeks, sealing its fate with a yearly gross of ₦127.89 million, as reported by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).
As the anticipation builds, ‘Orisa’ promises to transport viewers into a captivating realm where ancient traditions, mystical forces, and the resilience of a powerful warrior converge, making it a must-watch on Prime Video this February.
