Witness Box is a newly anticipated movie directed by Stanley Obi and produced by Chima Raph. The trailer is a must-watch, that is, given the movie’s stellar cast and it’s special appearances by Soni and Betty Irabor. It’s a movie said to be about “Self against Self” and will be in the cinemas soon.
The movie stars Shola Sobowale as Mrs Ego, an Igbo mother-in-law who watches over her daughter with jealous vigilance. In the trailer, the majesty of the court doesn’t phase her as she is uncouth and untamed. She oozes brashness and she is unapologetic. You may never have to read her mind. She shoots from the hip. Her dominant and no-nonsense nature in The Wedding Party (2016) finds an avenue for re-expression here, and she uses it well.
Wale Ojo (Ojukokoro) plays Mr Arinze, a self-centered, manipulative and stone-hearted mate who settles in Abuja without his family. He lends credence to the accusation that the DNA of African men is essentially polygamous, and having one leg in bachelorhood while married suited him.
Other stars to watch out for include Femi Branch, Chiwetalu Agu (lookout for his Johnnie Walker costume), Keira Hewatch, Lord Frank (Oloibiri), Otunba Tunji Sotimirin, Joke Muyiwa, Iyke Michael, Ifebuche Ogbonna and Awonusi Matilda. The movie was shot by Lukman AbdulRahman and the screenplay was written by Gbenga Adesanya and Joy Ohieri.
