It is exhilarating enough to know that we are getting a first feature-length animation film from Nollywood.
But seeing the calibre of acts that’s being put together for the said film, Gammy and the Living Things? It’s another level of joy.
In “Gammy and the Living Things”, Jude “MI” Abaga voices the main character Gammy.
Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, Segun Arinze, Pete Edochie, John Dumelo (Ghana), Ruby Gyang, Bovi, late Sadiq Daba and Avril (Kenya), amongst others also form the array of the talents cast.
And as if that wouldn’t be enough to create magic, the accompanying soundtrack goes on to be a compilation of the works of evergreen musicians like Blakky, Ras Kimono, Majek Fashek, The Mandators, and William Onyeabor or household names like TuFace, M.l Abaga, Made Kuti, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Ric Hassani, Praiz, Johnny Drille, and Goya Menor.
I mean! Kudos to Utricle Studios, the production company and brains behind this project. They have done more than a thing.
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who was a special guest of honour at the private screening held at Filmhouse, Victoria Island by Utricle Studios said as much too in his address, where he explained how “Gammy and The Living Things” will celebrate the endless possibilities of Africa.
He touched on how the project will put Nigeria in a global perspective that will open doors for her to partake in the global animation market revenue.
Gammy and the Living Things follows the story’s titular character, an Agama lizard named Gammy, who decides to be independent and move to Lagos(I can almost taste the shege it will see) and defies all odds to achieve his lifelong dreams of becoming a superstar.
It does not have a release date yet but stay perched on this space (including our social media pages) and you’ll be the first to know.
