Mercy Johnson must have been impressed with Frank Rajah’s “Iyore” to be collaborating with him on a new epic feature “Inikpi.” If you pay close attention to the history of our heroines, there are a lot of stories to explore. Izu Ojukwu will be releasing “Amina: Queen of Zazzau” next year and we should be gearing up for “Inikpi,” a film about the legendary Igala princess warrior.
In August, Mercy Johnson took a tour around Kogi to scout for young and vibrant talents through the GYT Talent Hunt. Accompanying her on judging duties were Bimbo Akintola, and Frank Rajah. Unknown talents from Kogi state will fill some of the roles in the new movie. The project is strongly backed by the Kogi state government, in a bid to promote young talents from Kogi to the the global stage.
Mercy Johnson who is the Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor on Entertainments, Arts and Culture and has received recommendation from the Chief of Staff to Kogi state government, Edward Onoja, who paid a courtesy visit to the set of “Inikpi.”
“Inikpi” is fixed for a 2018 release and boasts of Frank Rajah as a director, Sam Dede will also make a triumphant come back. Other actors set to feature are Odunlade Adekola, Saheed Balogun, and Paul Obazele among others.
There is a lot to anticipate with the release of Inikpi and Mercy has been teasing scenes on social media, including a dance scene that projects the Igala dance.
2018 looks like the month for heroines.
