Come June 2017, we shall be anticipating the nationwide release of Kunle Afolayan’s new movie Roti. The film is a Golden Effects Pictures and African Magic collaboration and will be released alongside Omugwo and Tribunal – two other new films from the Phone Swap director.
The film follows the life of an aggrieved mother (Kate Henshaw) who loses her son (Dari Afolayan) to a brief illness, but five years later, she sees an exact replica of him walking leisurely home from a different school and living an entirely different life.
Roti stars A-list actors gracing Kunle Afolayan’s set for the first time, these include Kate Henshaw (The Meeting), Toyin Oshinaike (Taxi Driver: Oko Ahewo), and Fathia Balogun (Ishanna). The movie also introduces Darimisire Afolayan (Kunle Afolayan’s son) and promises to be another blockbuster, especially with BAFTA award winner – Yinka Edward (A Love Story, ‘76, 93 Days) among the crew.
Africa Movie Academy Award winning actress, Kate Henshaw, who stars as Diane (the stricken mother), had this to say about the film: “I’ve never seen a story like this… The script interested me, that’s why I took it up.”
Our fingers remain crossed, first for the trailer, then the movie.
