The elders say, “You know a Saturday will be pleasant right from the days leading up to it,” and they are right.
“In Bed With The Pedros” opens with a scene of a political aspirant in an interview spilling all his evil deeds, and the interviewer (at such a key moment) sits like that one member of the bridal train that’s responsible for recording what should be bought for the bridal shower.
Yet, I continued with it thinking “it can’t be that bad”. But oh, it was. Worse, even. It promised nothing and delivered to it. Jide( Ademola Adedoyin) and Hawa (Rahama Sadau) are driving and basking in conjugal bliss when we hear that their car, though not in reverse, has hit someone that’s behind them.
Did you pause? Because I did. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears.
In hindsight now, I feel sort of thankful that if nothing else, the scene manages to quickly establish Jide’s status in society and how inconvenient the accident is for his political aspirations, thereby shaving a few minutes off the laborious ride I was bound for.
The succeeding scenes too. They rush through Hawa’s objection to sweeping the incident under the rug, Jide trying to convince her otherwise, and Jide’s dad, the older Pedro, taking matters into his own hands lest his chicken of a son and his holier-than-thou daughter-in-law muddle Jide’s senatorial campaign up.
This is another cliché story on a regular Tuesday in Nollywood- nothing a proper storytelling and simple execution won’t sell.
But even on this, and a convincing acting, the director fails to deliver.
This travesty may end up being filed under “lack of an adequate budget”, but trust me, that can not justify a forward moving car hitting a pedestrian that’s behind it. Or the many other gaffes that I can’t begin to list.
