FIlmHouse Group FemaleIn the traditional world often defined by male dominance, the Nigerian film industry is rewriting the script both on and off the screen. With 50% leadership positions occupied by women, Filmhouse Group is highlighting the impact of women in leadership, proving that gender diversity is not a moral imperative but a strategic advantage to be harnessed.

In an interview with Business Day, the women behind the success of Nigeria’s foremost cinema, distribution, and production company – Filmhouse Group are setting a new standard for female representation. The interview spotlights ten women whose leadership, creativity, and vision are reshaping the landscape from driving audience-centric campaigns to championing inclusive workplace policies, these women are laying the groundwork for a more equitable future in film.

Their collective expertise has helped Filmhouse expand from a single-screen cinema in 2012 to 55 screens across 11 locations and counting, solidifying its position as West Africa’s largest cinema chain. Beyond operational success, these women are redefining how films are marketed, diverse stories reach audiences, and how talent is nurtured.

Chief Content Officer Ladun Awobokun also shared how she is pioneering a more inclusive film slate by securing female-led narratives and culturally significant stories, while Chief Marketing Officer Mojisola Oladapo has transformed audience engagement through innovative campaigns and strategic partnerships. Women like Barbara Babarinsa, Eguono Ohwo, Chizoba Obi, Toluwanimi Adeyemi, Edith Itoya, Victoria Ogar, Winifred Amakulor, and Victoria Ushebi are ensuring that the company’s approach to production, business management, people management, finance, distribution, marketing, and public relations aligns with an entertainment industry that values equity, inclusion, and sustainable growth.

The entertainment firm proves that when women are given the platform to lead, they drive innovation, improve business outcomes, and build industries that thrive. As Nollywood’s film industry gains more international recognition, the company’s commitment to gender parity and leadership diversity is setting a precedent for the future – one where women are amongst the decision-makers, shaping the industry’s direction.
