Afamefuna || December 1
Directed by Kayode Kasum, ‘Afamefuna: A Nwa-Boi Story,’ explores the Igbo apprenticeship system, showcasing how it revived the community’s economy. This system allowed successful Igbo men to pass on their knowledge and blessings to apprentices, continuing the cycle of wealth creation. The film stars Paul Nnadiekwe, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Stan Nze, Alexx Ekubo, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, Segun Arinze, Jide Kene Achufusi, and Noble Igwe.
Double Dekoi || December 1
Double Dekoi stars Sola Sobowale, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Rodney Perry, and Baaj Adebule. The film follows Amanda, a determined young woman. She infiltrates a dangerous criminal organisation to clear her brother’s name of murder. Amanda recruits a mismatched team to navigate a treacherous world of drug and human trafficking.
WURA S2 || December 4th
The much-awaited original telenovela’s second season will air on Showmax, releasing 4 episodes every week. As the countdown begins, the big question is whether Wura’s winning streak will endure or if luck will turn against her. Will she continue reigning, or will justice finally catch up?
Drink|| December 8th
Written by Remi Ibinola and directed by Victor Okere, it raises a question: “How do you cope with a man unable to explain his drunken episodes?” The movie, starring Alexx Ekubo, Nancy Isime, and Uche Montana, hits cinemas.
Blood Vessel || December 8th
Six people, brought together by chance, flee a town devastated by oil pollution. They stow away on a mysterious ship, unaware of the dangers ahead. Blood Vessel, a mystery and crime thriller film from Charles Okpaleke’s Play Network Studios, is written by David Musa Jeffrey. Directed by Moses Inwang, it stars David Ezekiel, Adaobi Dibor, and Jide Kene Achufusi. It’ll be available both on Netflix and the cinema.
Osato || December 8th
Osato, starring Phyna, Shawn Faqua, Mercy Aigbe, and Femi Branch, follows Osato’s journey as she grapples with the harsh realities of her profession and gets entangled in a web of crime. This film is produced by ROK Studios and will be in cinemas.
Akoko (season)|| December 8th
Seun Olaiya directs Akoko. Omowunmi seizes a chance for change. The star-studded film hits cinemas. Starring Ronke Odusanya, Binta Ayo Mogaji, Biola Adebayo, and Kolawole Ajeyemi.
Agu|| December 14th
Agu is a legal drama featuring Kanayo O Kanayo, Nonso Odogwu, Ruby Okezie, Mofe Duncan, Ireti Doyle, and Linda Ejiofor. This 6-part limited series revolves around law, family rivalries, and a hint of the supernatural. It focuses on three main characters – Etim (played by Kanayo O. Kanayo), Pius (played by Nonso Odogwu), and Victoria (played by Ruby Okezie). They become embroiled in a court case involving the murder of Jonathan, a close friend of Pius. Directed by Anis Halloway, an AMVCA winner for “Unmarried,” episodes will be released weekly on Showmax.
Breath of Life || December 15th
Breath of Life, written and directed by Sasore, tells the story of a former clergyman, Wale Ojo, who loses everything dear to him, including his faith. He embarks on a journey of self-transformation when his Christian houseboy, Chimezie Imo, takes over his life. The film also features Sam Dede, Tina Mba, Eku Edewor, Genoveva Umeh, Ademola Adedoyin, and Chidozie Nzeribe. It marks Prime Video’s first commissioned film from Nigeria.
Ada Omo Daddy || December 15th
Ada Omo Daddy, co-directed by Akay Mason and Adebayo Tijani, is a Mercy-Aigbe production marking her significant return to the box office. The film features Omowunmi Dada, Sola Sobowale, Dele Odule, Tomi Ojo, and Tayo Faniran. Also joining Aigbe’s comeback are Nollywood veterans Charles Okafor and Fred Amata.
School run|| December 15th
School Run is a family drama about Timileyin and Adeola, career-driven parents, and their son Bolu. During the holidays, a routine school pick-up turns into an emotional quest when Bolu gets on the wrong bus. The couple, played by Ifeanyi Kalu and Amanda Iriekpen, embark on this nerve-racking journey. Greatness Ewurum portrays Bolu. Watch School Run on Showmax.
A Tribe Called Judah|| December 15th
A Tribe Called Judah tells the story of a family planning a mall robbery with their mother’s help. However, they encounter armed robbers upon arrival. Co-directed by Adeoluwa Owu and Funke Akindele, the film stars Jidekene Achufusi, Olumide Owuru, Timini Egbuson, Uzee Usman, and Tobi Makinde as Jedidah Judah’s sons (played by Funke Akindele). Also featuring Genoveva Umeh, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Ebele Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, and Yvonne Jegede.
Malaika || December 22nd
Directed by Steve Sodiya, Malaika features Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, Emeka Ike, Uzor Arukwe, Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett, and Odunlade Adekola. It’s a story of a barren woman seeking solutions for her situation, grappling with anger issues and receiving support from friends and family. During a spiritual journey, she discovers the impact of her behaviour.
Ogeere || December 22nd
Ogeere, co-directed by Damola Olatunji and Ololade Ebong from a story by Olatunji, features Kola Oyewo, Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Peju Ogunmola, Dele Odule, and Rotimi Salami.
This is Lagos|| December 25th
Directed by Kenneth Gyang, ‘This is Lagos’ follows Stevo (played by Gabriel Afolayan), a young man craving superstardom in a city where everyone hides behind masks. The film also stars Ikechukwu Onunaku, Rahama Sadau, Kate Henshaw, Enyinna Nwigwe, Mike Afolarin, and Laura Pepple. It’s based on a short story by Crispin Oduobuk-MfonAbasi and will hit cinemas on its release date.
