‘Guardians’, ‘Mr Chef’ & ‘Five Letter Love’ Emerge Winners At LIFANIMA 2018!

The sophomore edition of the Lagos International Festival of Animation (LIFANIMA) held at Freedom Park on Thursday June 7, 2018. The event was attended by local and foreign animators, filmmakers, advertising agencies, media practitioners, and the general public.

LIFANIMA is an annual platform for the promotion of local animators and the development of quality animation. According to Muyiwa Kayode, the festival director, this year’s edition had a total of 37 submissions from different African countries.

The event featured an in-depth workshop speaking on ‘Funding Your Animation Film’, screenings, networking, band performances, entertainment, and a cocktail. The award ceremony later kicked off to see four winners emerge among twelve nominees.

Nzenwa Kelechi beat Adebimpe Adebambo and Ajani Damilola to win gold in the Best 2D Animation category. Adeosun Olumide’s Mr Chef beat Tayo Fasunon’s Food Trolley and Adaba, his own production, to win the Best Animation Commercial. The event came to and end with a vote of thanks from the director and a closing cocktail.

Organized by USP Brand Management, LIFANIMA aims to improve the movie industry through the increased inclusion of animation content. See the complete list of this year’s winners below:

Best 2D Animation:
CHICKEN CORE: THE RISE OF KINGS – Nzenwa Kelechi (Winner)
Floyd Mayweather Fight Nigeria Guy Kojo – Ajani Damilola
Tejumade – Adebimpe Adebambo

Best Special Effects:
GUARDIANS – Nnabuchi Joshua (Winner)
Alajah – Isaac Busari
Cocktail Explosive – Peter Reezer

Best Animation Commercial:
MR CHEF – Adeosun Olumide (Winner)
Food Trolley – Tayo Fasunon
Adaba – Adeosun Olumide

Best 3D Animation:
FIVE LETTER LOVE – Tunde Oluwa (Winner)
Kachie Music Video – Adeosun Olumide
Water Wahala – Brian Wilson
