FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and a trailblazer in financial inclusion, has announced the commencement of its 2025 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week, slated for October 27 to November 1, 2025. Now in its ninth consecutive year, the CR&S Week reflects the Bank’s unwavering commitment to empowering communities, promoting environmental sustainability, and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Under the theme “Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness” (SPARK), this year’s edition continues FirstBank’s mission to create a ripple effect of goodwill, compassion, and social impact across borders.
A Legacy of Kindness and Social Impact
The SPARK initiative—the cornerstone of FirstBank’s CR&S Week—encourages employees, partners, and the public to engage in meaningful acts of kindness that drive social transformation. Across its global footprint—FirstBank Nigeria, FirstBank UK, FirstBank Gambia, FirstBank Sierra Leone, FirstBank DRC, FirstBank Guinea, FirstBank Ghana, FBNBank Senegal, First Pension, and First Nominees—the Bank will mobilize thousands of staff members to dedicate their time, skills, and resources to charitable causes.
Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment, saying:
“CR&S Week is a call to action—it’s about showing up for humanity, being kind, and proving that even the smallest act can create lasting change. At FirstBank, we believe kindness is a currency that never loses value. Through SPARK, our people continue to demonstrate that giving back strengthens not only communities but also the human spirit.”
Sustainability at the Heart of FirstBank’s Mission
As part of its environmental responsibility, FirstBank is partnering with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF) to plant 20,000 trees during the CR&S Week—marking the final phase of its contribution to Nigeria’s 2060 Decarbonisation Agenda. This initiative aligns with the Bank’s ambitious goal to plant 50,000 trees by 2025, a target it is on track to exceed with 31,000 trees already planted in previous years.
Empowering Women Through Health and Inclusion
Furthering its support for SDG 5 (Gender Equality), FirstBank will collaborate with Borno and Katsina States to provide medical interventions—including surgeries and post-care kits—for women affected by Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF). This initiative underscores the Bank’s commitment to advancing women’s health, empowerment, and dignity across underserved communities.
Building a Culture of Kindness and Compassion
Throughout the week, FirstBank employees across all subsidiaries will be encouraged to share messages of kindness that inspire empathy and social responsibility. Activities will include:
-
Themed SPARK webinars focused on the power of kindness and sustainability.
-
School outreach programs aimed at teaching students the value of compassion and social responsibility.
-
Visits to orphanages, IDP camps, and charitable organizations across Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa, and the UK—reinforcing the Bank’s culture of giving and community engagement.
These initiatives reflect FirstBank’s holistic approach to corporate sustainability, which integrates environmental stewardship, social impact, and ethical governance under its Green Recovery Nigeria framework.
A Decade of Purpose-Driven Impact
Since its inception in 2017, FirstBank’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Week has evolved into a flagship initiative for driving inclusive development, social impact, and environmental action. The program has become a rallying point for employees, customers, and the general public to unite in the spirit of kindness, proving that sustainable progress begins with individual action.
As the 2025 CR&S Week unfolds, FirstBank reaffirms its belief that kindness is not just a virtue—it’s a movement. The Bank continues to inspire millions to perform Acts of Random Kindness, making a measurable difference in lives and communities across Africa and beyond.
