In a heartwarming display of inclusion and impact, Filmhouse Group, in collaboration with the Bread of Hope Foundation, hosted a special movie screening for over 600 children at the IMAX Filmhouse Cinema in Lekki, Lagos. This memorable event introduced children from Makoko and other underserved communities to the wonder of cinema—many for the very first time.

The initiative forms part of Filmhouse Group’s larger mission to use storytelling as a catalyst for transformation and social inclusion, providing children with access to immersive film experiences regardless of their socio-economic background.
“We understand that cinema goes beyond entertainment—it’s a transformative force that shapes minds and broadens perspectives,” said Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO of Filmhouse Group (comprising Filmhouse Cinemas, FilmOne Entertainment, and FilmOne Studios). “This screening is a step towards a future where creativity is democratized and accessible to all. It’s just the beginning.”
A Faith-Inspired Journey on Screen

The children were treated to a special screening of King of Kings, a faith-based film distributed by Angel Studios and sub-distributed by FilmOne Entertainment across West Africa. The movie explores the story of Jesus Christ through the eyes of a child, weaving in powerful themes of faith, love, courage, hope, and resilience.
The cinematic experience left a lasting impression, offering more than just entertainment—it sparked inspiration. The immersive environment helped these young viewers connect deeply with the message of the film, reinforcing the idea that storytelling can be both uplifting and life-changing.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Creatives
Winnifred Wessels, Head of Marketing at Filmhouse Cinemas, emphasized the long-term impact of such initiatives:
“It was evident from the children’s reactions that the power of cinema to create meaningful, shared experiences cannot be overstated. This initiative goes beyond one screening—it’s about igniting the dreams of young minds who may one day shape the future of Nollywood through careers in filmmaking, animation, screenwriting, or storytelling.”
Democratizing Access to Cinema in Nigeria
Through this initiative and many others, Filmhouse Group continues to break down barriers and promote access to the arts for children from all walks of life. Their mission to democratize creativity is reshaping the landscape of film accessibility in Nigeria and inspiring a new generation of storytellers.
