When I first saw the title Devil in Agbada, I thought we were about to get an uppercase version of Yoruba demons—in the romantic sense—but as it turned out, Devil in Agbada is a political villain.
His name is Otunba Shonibare and three girls are on a vengeful mission against him for all the atrocities he committed towards their families.
Now, to be more clear, the movie does not hold much appeal for me because, for lack of a better word, of its clumsiness but the delivery of former BBN housemate of the Lockdown season, Erica Nlewedim in it is one that deserves to be highlighted.
Erica plays Tomi Ojo, one of the three girls, a role that is not only complex because of the sensitive topic of rape but also has acting adjacent actors like Efe Irele etc.
Yet, she holds up impressively. Maybe some more.
Her pacing and expressions as a victim out for blood were just too apt for someone I would tongue-in-cheek consider a silver-screen rookie.
Considering the rising unseemly outcome of some BBN alum, Erica breaking into Nollywood is another Big Brother Naija win and we can’t wait to see more of what she has to offer.
Side note:
- Henceforth, no one except Big Brother is permitted to use the words “platform” and “exposure” in their recruitment vocabulary. Amen?
Devil in Agbada rates a 4/10 at XploreNollywood and is available now on Prime Video.
