In 2014, Lupita N’yongo had just been cast for the Star Wars, when she got signed on to star in and produce an adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s 2013 Americanah.
We were all oh so glad and were anticipating the arrival- which never happened. And the reason for this, till date, is still unclear.
Now, the same news is making the rounds yet again, and we are hoping it does happen, as it seems Brad Pitt has now stepped up to the plate to help Lupita N’yongo develop the story and probably star in the movie, too.
For those unfamiliar, “Americanah” is the epic love story of Ifemelu and Obinze, young Nigerians whose romance spans continents, visas, phone cards and breakups.
The film is expected to explore the cruelties and the humour of both the modern immigrant experience and the difficulty of finding your way home. It’s such a beautiful book. I hope they go all the way in to making it to a movie this time.
