One of Nigeria’s most successful comedians and filmmaker, Ayo Makun (A Trip to Jamaica), popularly known as AY, has recently graced movie lovers with the Motion Picture Soundtrack for his upcoming blockbuster 10 Days in Sun City. The video was released in commemoration of Innocent and Annie Idibia’s 4th wedding anniversary on the 23rd March, 2017.
The comedy drama, which has been described as a potpourri of love, passion, and culture, features Adesua Etomi playing Bianca, a campus beauty queen who Akpos has sacrificed his livelihood to make successful. After she wins a national beauty pageant, she becomes both the global ambassador and the face of a multinational conglomerate. The conglomerate is owned by ‘The Old Fox’ (Richard Mofe-Damijo), who also has plans for her to play a bigger role in his business as well as in his ‘life’. Bianca has no idea what lies in stock and neither does Akpos. Will Akpos give up his love or will ‘The Old Fox’ loose this time?
When asked to speak on people’s opinion that stand-up comedy no longer pays him, hence his move into Nollywood, here’s what the award winning filmmaker had to say:
“Personally, I can’t sing and that is the only area I won’t venture into…doing movies is a total package for me. It makes no sense for people to think that because I’m doing movies I have decided to stop stand up comedy…Steve Harvey is a stand-up comedian (and) a radio talk show host…People should just learn to accept entertainers and if Dbanj decides to act today it shouldn’t be attributed to the fact that Banky W had a successful debut in acting.”
Shot on location in Sun City and Lagos, 10 Days in Sun City was written by Kehinde Ogunlola and directed by Adze Ugah (Mrs Right Guy, Gog’ Helen). This comic drama features A-Class actors not limited to Richard Mofe-Damijo, Adesua Etomi, Mercy Johnson, Falz The Bahd Guy, Innocent 2Baba Idibia, Gbenro Ajibade, Fathia Balogun, Uti Nwachukwu, Yvonne Jegede and Alexx Ekubo.
Other non-Nigerian actors include Miguel Nunez (Hunting Season), the sensational Amanda Du Pont (Between Friends: Ithala), comedienne Thenjiwe Moseley, and Celeste Ntuli to name a few. The movie was produced Ayo Makun, Kirsty Galliard and Darlington Abuda and will be hitting cinemas across Nigeria and South Africa come June 23, 2017.
