AY Film “ Almajiri” is one of the most anticipated movies, and it premiers in June 2023.
Of course, you will only agree with the former if you caught the private screening too or caught wind of the film’s giant strides at any point since its release- from being the closing film at the AFRIFF and TINFF in 2022, getting 5 nominations at African Movie Academy, 27 nominations at TINFF to bagging 7 awards at Best of Nollywood.
If you didn’t, this next paragraph is for you.
Almajiri is Ayo Makun’s film, directed by Toka McBaror and co-produced by Darlington Abudu. It tells the story of the Almajiri system, which subjects children to abject poverty.
The untold side of the Almajiri’s story, where living on the streets make him prey to rape, trafficking; the horrors he experiences long after we have hurried past him into the shelter of our homes; the horrors that sink his eye sockets an inch deeper before the next time when you see him again is what AY aims to highlight in this movie.
One could say Almajiri is another one of the movies that will be hitting our society’s pressing social issues on the head just like Mo Abudu’s Aba Market women story, Linda Ikeji’s ALUU 4 did- and they wouldn’t be wrong.
Almajiri stars Alex Ekubo, Rahama Sadau, Segun Arinze, Ali Nuhu, Kanayo.O.Kanayo, Annie Idibia, Asabe Madaki and May more.
Now that we have that settled, Almajiri premieres in June 2023.
