Just last week, only few words (cinematic or not) could compete for a seat at the trend tables with #barbieheimer
So Orisa? A Nigerian movie trending in Nigeria yes? Yes. But going toe to toe with not one global sensation but two. Inject it !
Never did I imagine that a day would come that a Nigerian movie would be mentioned in the same sentence as an American film- and especially not in the matters of box office records.
And this is not because I do not rate Nollywood- we all know how long problems of budget or one other problem have dogged this industry at the heels.
It is safe to say this era of budget abundance is looking good on Nollywood- (money stops nonsense doesn’t it)
Because despite not getting enough PR as Barbenheimer, either separate or together, Odunlade’s Yoruba epic beats Oppenheimer by at least a 10 million naira head start and trails 12 million naura behind Warner Bros’ Barbie at its current 26.58 million naira.
A win is a win. Plus, what’s to say the global sensations would have done this well if they were standalones like Orisa sef? Please let me gloat.
This era of adequate budget? We love it!
