If you are a hopeless romantic, that is, you love love, love seeing people find love and like to feel all the feels, high are the chances that you will have come across the movies on this list. In that case, this is your cue to go for a rewatch.
However, if you haven’t seen any or have just seen a few, feel free to scroll down (oh I know, such benevolence is rare), and upgrade your movie-OS ASAP.
1.The Bridgertons, especially S2
One thing among many that I’ve learned from my years of watching romance movies? Don’t settle for less. Effort must and can always be on a 100.
Cos’ what the heck do they mean by “I love you?” Or “you are the sugar in my tea? When they can say “you are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires” or “You destroy me and without you, I have no use for my windpipe”.
The bar is The Bridgertons, Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of Julia Quinn’s books and vice versa. Thanks.
2. Selina 1-3
How do you know the kiss was good? Get a pen and paper.
You know the kiss was good when your apology is met with more insistent kisses- Tobi, 2023.
Okay, I’m being serious now. Bimbo Ademoye( Selina), and Daniel Etim in this “Oga versus local housemaid romance” is everything-that will leave you visually and emotionally sated by the time you finish watching.
3. A Journal for Jordan
Based on the real-life story, A Journal for Jordan follows the improbable romance between Charles (Michael B. Jordan) and Dana (Chanté Adams), an Army Sergeant and a journalist, respectively.
I read somewhere that our tear ducts need tears to be truly cleansed, so if this movie turns out to be a tear fest for you, I want you to know I was looking out for your eyes.
4. Forever My Girl
If you don’t actually know this one, I will let you off easy(but get familiar, will you?)
Forever My Girl is a 2018 movie adaptation of Heidi McLaughlin’s novel about two high school sweethearts whose love story turns sour when Liam, the groom, gets cold feet and refuses to show up on their wedding day or the seven years after then.
7 years later, and now a hotshot country musician, Liam is forced to face the town he abandoned, the woman he left on the altar and maybe, a 7-year old breathing-statistic machine he unknowingly hid in his fiancé before leaving town.
5. Beyond the Lights(2014)
In this 2014 film, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, is Noni, a troubled pop diva who attempted suicide as a result of the pressures of an overbearing mother who also doubles as her business manager.
When she makes the decision to end everything, it is her sexy man-meat of a security detail, Kaz, (Nate Parker) who talks her out of it.
Their romance story has just the appropriate amount of ups and downs to cause your heart to flutter in your chest far more frequently than necessary.
6. The Men’s Club- Aminu and Tumi’s love story
And last on my list is Aminu, our very own Yoruba Lee-Min-Ho. Oof! If you find yourself skipping some scenes because they are distracting you from this love story, I want you to know that you are not the only one. His and Tumi’s (Mimi Chaka) love story is that good.
The Men’s Club was created by Urban Vision, directed by Tola Odunsi and is still streaming on REDTV on YouTube.
Which will you be rewatching(watching) first? Let me know in the comments.
