When the Producers of The Little Mermaid Remake released the trailer for the movie, there was a lot of noise about why a black woman, namely Halle Bailey, shouldn’t be playing a “white fictional character.” That’s hogwash, but it’s not our bone of contention today.
The Little Mermaid will be premiering in theatres on the 26th of May, 2023, and before it comes, we’ll be sharing 5 reasons why we can’t wait for its release.
5. It’s been over 30 years since the first Little Mermaid graced our screens. We’re anticipating the 30-year difference being reflected in every aspect of this remake’s cinematography. We’re looking forward to seeing how time has affected the retelling of the story and to know if we’ll love it more when it is released.
4. The film’s teasers had us hungry for more. Have you seen The Little Mermaid Trailer? It gave everything it was supposed to provide A black queen bringing life to our screens with her beauty, poise, and immaculate singing voice. Yes, please!
3. The Cast Oozes Sweet Savoring Diversity. Unlike other movies, where producers sprinkle a touch of colour into their cast members to keep the racist comments away, The Little Mermaid remake has a beautifully diverse cast.
2. The Little Mermaid Story Remake tells the tale of Unity, not just love. Most people might cringe now should they watch The Little Mermaid again, especially at that line where Ariel says to her father, “Daddy, I love him!” about a man she barely knows. The Little Mermaid Remake takes a different direction, focusing more on unity rather than misguided love or obsession.
1. We can’t wait to see a Black Ariel grace our screens. You might say we have addressed this point, but it cannot be overemphasized. Disney has perhaps only a few black Disney princesses, and now we have one more. Fabulous, isn’t it?
These are some reasons we’re anticipating the release of The Little Mermaid on the 26th of May.
What about you?
Are you looking forward to the official movie release, or have you seen all you needed to see?
