The Nigerian film industry is growing and young people are making contributions to telling diverse stories. Nwafili Emmy, a final year student of Human Anatomy at the University of Port-Harcourt has released a short film “3 Letters” with a focus on the growing trend of one night stands.
The story follows Jed and Jeff, who are twin brothers that get into trouble after a one night stand goes wrong. Jed and Jeff seek the help of friends after a young girl dies in their room. In the midst of panic, they try to make important decisions that will save them from trouble.
The film starts with Nwafili getting young people’s opinions on the film’s subject matter. We get interesting views on the subject but Nwafili gives his verdict by the time the credit rolls.
While the message is quite preachy and the accuracy of the filmmaker, where he states that a research shows that 660 out of 1000 people have had one night stands cannot be ascertained. Nwafili makes quite an effort. For a first time filmmaker, the sins of the first attempt are glaring but there is a lot of potential for growth.
Emmy intends to make more short films that will target the Nigerian Youths.
